Resolution of the 46th District Democrats Resolution Supporting SEIU 1199NW in Negotiations with Northwest Hospital Adopted April 21st, 2005
WHEREAS, the platform of the 46th District Democrats states "We believe in equal pay for equal work; we oppose mandatory overtime; and we support payment of prevailing wage rates, and
WHEREAS, Northwest Hospital is increasingly struggling to attract and retain staff as wages and benefits fall behind other local hospitals, yet the hospital is in a stronger financial position than similar hospitals in the Puget Sound region, and
WHEREAS, the administration of Northwest Hospital is paid considerably more than any other hospital in the Puget Sound area, but they refuse to invest in the work force who make quality health care affordable in the 46th District, and
WHEREAS, Northwest Hospital has refused to honor its commitment to protect its employees from subcontracting, and
WHEREAS, Northwest Hospital has failed to provide affordable healthcare benefits and a living wage to a segment of its employees, and
WHEREAS, Phyllis Kenney, State Representative of the 46th District, has written a letter to Bill Schneider, CEO of Northwest Hospital in support of fair negotiations with SEIU 1199NW members of Northwest Hospital;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the 46th District Democrats support SEIU 1199NW members in their efforts to supply quality healthcare to the people of the 46th District by supporting SEIU 1199NW in its negotiation for a fair contract.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we will call upon the State Democratic party to assist SEIU 1199NW members in the expeditious and equitable conclusion of their contract negotiations.
